General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. Winter Cold

So yesterday I stayed home cause I had an icky winter cold/allergies. Figured extra sleep would help. It did - so I didn’t cancel on my evening plans: watching Love Actually with a really good friend at the Alamo. So good. I even saw it on the big screen the first time around, but it just gets better.

Anyway, poor friend - when we got back to her car she had a flat tire. Like horribly flat. So we pull into a parking lot (cattycorner to the homeless shelter) and start to change it. Somehow everything goes wrong. The jack starts to tilt the moment it is actually carrying the weight of the car (it does this twice). Once when we have already started to pull the tire off, so the lug nuts are off too. A couple of guys had stopped to see if they could help. We had said no - cause we were managing it at the time. Well, after all the craziness and we’re scared the tire is going to jump out and stuff, we call her dad to come help us. He is great and changes the tire.

Unfortunately, I think standing out in the cold for an hour doing all of this brought back the icky winter cold/allergies. UGH!! I took the morning off work at least, we’ll see what the afternoon brings.

Of note in the tire story: 2 cars over was a sketchy guy sitting in his car (a new BMW) smoking and talking on his phone with the windows down the ENTIRE TIME. never even spoke to us.

juliaallison:

Eating out:

Zen - I got the spicy shrimp bowl with extra veggies and spinach instead of rice. The sauce wasn’t paleo.

Jason’s Deli - A salad with grilled chicken, nuts, and fruit. (told them to hold the feta and had oil/vinegar dressing). I had picked up crackers (to cheat… I know) but somehow lost them on the way to the table. Seriously. So that was a good meal.

Beverages:

Water, Coffee (too much…), Wine (too much)

My 2 pitfalls this week:

Two Year Old Birthday Party - the cake looked so delish. Seriously. So I had a small piece.

SantaCon - multiple drinks. with soft drinks. The next day had pizza. I didn’t even drink that much (honestly) and just felt sluggish all of Sunday.

Results:

Scale is reading 2 lbs lighter. I feel healthy. Like really healthy. And I feel full. Also, I’ve been able to deal with weird cravings by eating fruit or nuts. Plus, I am loving eating more fish. Really loving it.

INaction Heroes for Girls?

INaction Heroes for Girls?:
Very interesting, from Beth Beck who works at NASA.

My Fit Foods

Review of My Fit Foods:

This last week was my first week of eating Paleo (meat, fish, veggies, fruit, and nuts - and no added stuff like sugars or salts or preservatives, etc.). For someone who isn’t a natural cook, it was a bit daunting. Luckily, groupon had a deal for MyFitFoods - $40 worth of food for $15. Of course I jumped on that - what a deal! Plus MFF had just opened, and I wanted to check it out. MFF specializes in healthy premade meals. Also, they have good portion control and don’t add extra things to their foods.

So I’m really excited cause I figured I wouldn’t cook last week, and instead just try the following meals.

Salmon and Grilled Veggies

Tilapia and Grilled Veggies (I got 2 of these)

Ginger Chicken Delight (also with yummy veggies)

Chicken Fruit cup (I got 2 of these)

Not bad for $15. My only complaint - I think the tilapia was really bland. The salmon was good, and I did enjoy eating more fish during the week. Ginger Chicken is delish.

Will I do it again for $40? Maybe. I’m getting pretty good at making quick healthy meals at home, and if I have time to do the planning, then it isn’t an issue. If I don’t have time to plan or cook (ex: during the really busy times next session), this is a great really healthy option and keeps me eating paleo. Check them out and let me know what you think!

reallykatie:
